I barely left the sewing room today. I’ve got my own little factory going making some reclaimed flannel (a retired sheet) into handkerchiefs. There are going to be 53 of them. That is how many I’ll get from the sheet and some virgin flannel scraps that I also had for some reason (I think related to the ironing board cover, which is another project). I look forward to running less risk of running out the way we have in the last week. I am behind on laundry.
All hankies have been finished through Stage 2 (initial overcast stitch on all edges) and about half are completed through Stage 3 (pressing a 1/4″ fold around all edges). Yes, I gave myself Stage 1 credit just for tearing the pieces to size. The final Stage 4 is the stitching down those folded edges. I’m hoping they’ll be done tomorrow. No progress on the boxer shorts today.
The other night we made a delicious roasted garlic and asiago cheese sauce using the Joy of Cooking recipe for veloute sauce as a base. Turns out that leftover and cold it makes a fantastic spread for bread. So I made another batch tonight. Yum.
I got a sort of update from my friend today (via Facebook post, so not a lot of detail), and Devin is doing somewhat better with some encouraging signs, but he still needs plenty more positive energy and more healing vibes. I have been thinking of him all day, kind of talking to him in my head. Come on, Devin, come on. Come back to your family and all the people who love you. And I spent a chunk of time this morning when I first woke up praying in my own fashion. I really hope he gets better. Nineteen today. It’s just not fair that he was injured so gravely. Come on, Devin, come on.
So I’m renewing my request for prayers and thoughts for Devin. Every little bit helps. Thanks.
I just got the call that dinner is ready. G’night!
