I don’t celebrate Christmas anymore, but I am giving myself a day off from blogging anyhow. I plan to lay around, watch DVDs, maybe ball up some buckeyes (made the dough yesterday while apples were cooking) and coat them in chocolate. I ate all the We ran out of chex mix, so I might throw together another batch. Andy’s going to cook the capon that we set into brine yesterday, and I’ll toss a tater tot casserole in the oven. Thank you, Jen Hoffman, for the excellent recipe– not just for potlucks anymore! And I’m thinking eggnog bread pudding for breakfast sounds good.
I’ve also been bitten once again by the Christmas cleaning bug. Something about a holiday when part of me still feels like I should be visiting family but since I’m not, I have this giddy sense of freedom, like I found an extra day under the couch cushion to spend however I want.
I sometimes like to spend those doing things like cleaning out cupboards or scrubbing the sink. One of my best Christmases ever was spent cleaning all the windows, inside and out, in my 5th floor Philly apartment. The sparkling clear view was spectacular. You’d be amazed what you can accomplish with some vinegar, newspaper, a hammer and utility knife to get both sashes moving freely, scrub pads and dish soap in the bathtub for the storms, and making sure to keep your center of gravity inside the apartment.
I hope y’all are all having a lovely day doing whatever you want. And look at that, I did a blog post anyhow. Hot dog.

Eggnog bread pudding. Sounds like a heavenly dish.
And I’m going to turn over my cushions to see if I can find any more free days under ‘em.
Elise, it did come out quite well. I also made Tennessee boiled custard to go over it. Delish even though I forgot the vanilla. I hope the couch cushion search is a success!
