So I’m testing out this new-ish approach to life: doing what’s easiest and most fun. Not as easy as one might imagine. Like, how do you even tell what sounds easiest and most fun? This morning, though, I had the idea that maybe I could apply the easy/fun litmus test to accomplish a small goal. Why not?
The astute observer will notice that no nice tidy little bio on this blog explains who the heck I am. I’ve been coasting on the idea that if you’re reading, you’re probably already friends with me, because I don’t actively tell many people that I’m blogging. But it’s listed in my profile on some public sites, and I comment on other blogs, so you never know who might wander over (hi, Sherron! I am waving to you and smiling).
For my part, when I stumble across a new blog I like to get a sense of who is writing it. I’m not expecting a flood of new visitors any time soon (or ever), but it’s like knowing that you’re bathrooms are clean so that if company shows up unexpectedly, you’re cool. I want a clean blog bathroom.
But I have no idea what to write. What to tell people about who I am, what I’m doing. I just have no idea what facts are salient or interesting. Age, interests, sure, I can cover those, but… seems a little boring. So I was thinking, you know, it would be a lot easier to write a bio if I just had a starting point.
Can the 6 of you who are reading maybe help me out by posing some questions I could answer?
Because that sounds like it would make things easier. And more fun. At least it sounds worth trying. I might also try this method, but frankly, it sounds less fun. Fire away, my friends. And thank you for your support.

I really connect to stories. A lot of new blogs start out with something like, “I was born on xx, 19xx, at state, city, blah blah blah…” I skip over that and get to the good stuff. So, since you ask, I’d like to know –
1. What is the big question in your life? What is the biggest mystery that you wish you could solve? (And I don’t mean solving a murder, unless that’s your thing)
2. What is your happiest childhood memory? Your saddest?
3. Take a walk around the block and describe what you see and feel.
4. If your life until now could be summarized by chapter titles, what would they be?
At the very least, keep blogging like you’re doing. I can find out a lot about someone just by their day-to-day talk.
Name five things you do that make you feel happy.
(Loving the post-a-day, btw)
I think it’s OK to keep it brief; why writing this blog matters to you, and maybe some personal definitions of the words you use in that statement of purpose and how you came to them.
Wow! I’ve never been waved at in a blog before!! And I’m especially impressed that you spelled my name correctly.
I haven’t been reading your blog very long, so every time I read a post, I learn something new about you. I’m not one who rushes to the About page. I guess I like the discovery process.
But, let’s see…I guess I’d like to know what kinds of things you find interesting…or maybe 10 things about you that even people who know you well may not know. Something fun like that. I like the suggestions above, too!
Great ideas, everyone, thank you. I really appreciate your comments and your advice. Stay tuned for developments.
When I saw this:

I thought of you. It might help to explain why it isn’t necessarily easy to figure out what’s fun for you.
Re. your bio: it would be interesting to know why you decided to blog, what (if anything) you hope to gain from it, what you consider to be the goal or purpose (if there is one) of your blog, and/or what you spend most time thinking about at the moment (you can choose your own definition of “at the moment”, e.g. during the past week, or month, or decade).
I, like Giulia, am loving the post-a-day.
I’ve been learning about you for long enough to say I have a fairly good picture of many of your guiding values, and even how they relate to your political views, but what’s missing for me is this:
What matters to you that has nothing to do with a cause, or a purpose, or making a difference on a big scale? What do you enjoy just because that’s what you enjoy, even if it’s old-fashioned or quirky or nerdy or goth? I know you love canning and weaving and sewing, but I understand it more in terms of sustainability and small footprint than in terms of “wows” and goosebumps.
Tell us about your goosebumps.
